OLSON, CHARLES JOHN:  Appointed for the writing of a critical history of the growth of Herman Melville; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1939.

Born December 27, 1910, at Worcester, Massachusetts. Education:  Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, B.A., 1932, M.A., 1933; Yale University, 1932–33; Harvard University, 1936–39.

Instructor in English, 1934–36, Clark University; Assistant in English, 1936–37, Instructor and Tutor, 1937–38, Counsellor in American Civilization, 1938–39, Harvard University.
