Harry Berger Jr. is Professor Emeritus in Literature and Art History at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The author, most recently, of Manhood, Marriage, and Mischief: Rembrandt’s “Night Watch” and other Dutch Group Portraits (Fordham UP, 2007), he is currently preparing four books for publication: Resisting Allegory: Interpretive Delirium in Spenser’s 1590 Faerie Queene, Caterpillage: Reflections on 17th Century Dutch Still Life Painting, A Fury in the Words: Love and Death in Shakespeare's Venice, and The Perils of Aischropolis: Structural Misanthropology in Plato’s Republic.
