REDDING, JAY SAUNDERS. Appointed for creative writing in the field of fiction; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1944.
Born October 13, 1906, Wilmington, Delaware. Education: Lincoln University, 1923–24; Brown University, Ph.D., 1928, M.A., 1932. Travelling Fellow of the University of North Carolina, 1940–41.
Instructor in English, 1928–31, Morehouse College; Instructor in English, 1934–36, Louisville Municipal college; Chairman of the Department of English, 1936–38, Southern University; Chairman of the Department of English, 1938–43, State Teachers College, Elizabeth City, North Carolina; Assistant Professor of English, 1943—, Hampton Institute.
Publications: To Make a Poet Black, 1939; No Day of Triumph, 1942. Articles in North American Review, Carolina Review, Mirror, Abbott’s Monthly, transition, American Mercury, Harper’s Magazine, New Masses, Negro Digest, Atlantic Monthly, New Republic.
