Van Horne, John:  Appointed for a study of the relations between the Italian and Spanish art epics of the Renaissance; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1929.

Born March 14, 1889, at Brooklyn, New York. Education: University of Virginia, A. B., 1908; Harvard University, A. M., 1909, Ph. D., 1913.

Instructor in Romance Languages, 1914–17, State University of Iowa; Instructor in Romance Languages, 1917–19, Associate, 1919–20, Assistant Professor, 1920–27, Associate Professor, 1927—, University of Illinois.

Publications: “Studies in Leopardi,” 1917; “Il risorgimento,” 1922; “El Bernardo of Bernardo de Balbuena,” 1927. Articles in Modern Language Journal, Hispania, Romanic Review, Modern Language Notes, Philological Quarterly.
