Byerly, Perry: Appointed to study mathematical geophysics, in order to apply data already obtained in the study of Montana and other American earthquakes to the problems of the nature and position of those discontinuities in the earth’s structure which lie above the central core, principally with Dr. Harold Jeffreys, St. John’s College, Cambridge, England, and Professor B. Gutenberg, University of Frankfort, Germany; tenure, twelve months from June, 1928.

Born May 28, 1897, at Clarinda, Iowa. Education: University of California, A.B., 1921, M.A., 1922, Ph.D., 1924.

Teaching Fellow in Physics, 1920–23, Whiting Fellow in Physics, 1923–24, University of California; Instructor in Physics, University of Nevada, 1924–25; Instructor in Seismology, 1925–27, Assistant Professor of Seismology, 1927—, University of California.
