Born May 2, 1901, Gaffney, South Carolina.  Education:  Wofford College, 1918–19; Wake Forest College, A.B., 1922.

Instructor in English, 1923–24, Georgetown (Kentucky) College; Instructor, 1924–25, Blue Ridge School for Boys; Staff Member, 1926–27, 1937–41, Charlotte News; Editor, 1928–29, Cleveland Press, Shelby, North Carolina.

Publications:  The Mind of the South, 1941. Articles in American Mercury, Nation.
