ELLIS, ELMER:  Appointed for the preparation of a biographical study of Finley Peter Dunne and of the influence of his writings, especially his Mr. Dooley essays, upon contemporary politics and political discussion; tenure, twelve months from August 15, 1939.

Born July 27, 1901, at Anamoose, North Dakota. Education:  University of North Dakota, A.B., 1924, A.M., 1925; State University of Iowa, Ph.D., 1930.

Professor of History, 1925–28, North Dakota State Teachers College; Instructor in History, 1928–30, State University of Iowa; Assistant Professor of History, 1930–32, Associate Professor, 1932—, University of Missouri. Visiting Professor of History, Ohio State University, Summer, 1937.

Publications:  Editor of Education Against Propaganda, 1937; Mr. Dooley at His Best, 1938. Articles in North Dakota Historical Quarterly, Current History, Colorado Magazine, Mississippi Valley Historical Review, Dictionary of American Biography, Social Education.
