HURSTON, ZORA NEALE: Appointed for the gathering of material for books on authentic Negro folk-life, in particular a study of magic practices among Negroes in the West Indies; tenure, twelve months from April 9, 1936.
Born at Eatonville, Florida. Education: Barnard College, B.A., 1928. R. Osgood Mason Fellowship of the Department of Anthropology, Columbia University, 1927–31.
Instructor in Drama, 1933–34, Bethune-Cookman College; Research Assistant, 1935, Library of Congress.
Publications: Jonah’s Gourd Vine, 1934; Mules and Men, 1935. Articles in Opportunity Magazine, World Tomorrow, Story.
Author of Sun to Sun, a play produced at the John Golden Theater, New York City, 1932.
