KATONA, GEORGE:  Appointed for studies in the field of the psychology of learning with special reference to the differences in learning by understanding and learning by memorization and drill; tenure, twelve months from April 15, 1940.

Born November 6, 1901, in Hungary. Education:  University of Budapest, 1918; University of Berlin, 1919; University of Göttingen, Ph.D., 1921.

Research Worker, 1922, University of Göttingen; Assistant in Psychology, 1923–24, University of Frankfort on Main; Assistant Editor, 1926–33, The German Economist; Research Associate in Psychology, New School for Social Research, 1934–39.

Publications:  Psychologie der Relationserfassung und des Vergleichens, 1924; Organizing and Memorizing, 1940; Studies in the Psychology of Learning and Teaching, 1940. Articles in Zeitschrift für Psychologie, Psychologische Forschung, Journal of Experimental Psychology.
