BARRERA Y ARENAS, TOMAS:  Appointed to make studies of non-metallic minerals and methods of geophysical exploration, chiefly at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; tenure, twelve months from September 4, 1931.

Born September 22, 1895, in Mexico City. Education:  National Preparatory School, Bachiller, 1912; School of Engineers, National University of Mexico, Mining and Metallurgical Engineer, 1918; Columbia University, 1921.

Professor of Geology, 1919–30, National University of Mexico; Geologist, 1922–30, Institute of Geology.

Publications:  Itinerarios Geológicos en el Estado de Michoacán (with David Segura), 1927; Informe Geológico del criadera y mina de Santa Rosa pertenecientes a la Santa Rosa Mining Co., distrito de Mazapil, Estado de Zacatecas,  1927; Informe preliminary de las zonas mineralizadas comprendidas entre las estaciones de Magdalena, Jal. y Tepic, Nay. A uno y otro lado de la via de Ferrocarril Sud-Pacífico, 1926; La mica desde el punto de vista comercial, 1929.
