BASSHE, EMJO:  Appointed for creative writing and studies of the theatre, abroad; tenure, twelve months from April 1, 1931.

Born January 20, 1898, in Lithuania. Education: Columbia University, 1919.

Associated with Peabody Playhouse, Boston, Chelsea Arts Theatre, and Castle Square Players, 1920–22; with Provincetown Playhouse, 1922–24; Director of the Stage Repertory of Philadelphia, 1925; Director, 1927–28, Executive Director, New Playwrights Theatre, NewYork, 1929–31.

Directed the following full length plays: The Centuries, Singing Jailbirds, by Upton Sinclair, and Naftoli Botwin by Vevoika, 1930.

Author of Adam Solitaire produced by the Provincetown Players, 1925; Earth produced by the New Playwrights Theatre, 1926, and The Centuries (under direction of the author), 1927. Short plays, The Bitter Fantasy, The Star, and Soil, produced by Stage Repertory, Philadelphia, 1925.
