J. C. Hallman

J.C. Hallman grew up in a master-planned community in Southern California, on a street called Utopia Road.  Nevertheless, he is the author of a number of books, including The Chess Artist, The Devil is a Gentleman, The Hospital for Bad Poets, In Utopia, and Wm & H’ry.  He is the editor of two anthologies of  “creative criticism,” The Story About the Story and The Story About the Story II.  In 2014, Hallman will publish a book about Nicholson Baker titled B & Me: A True Story of Literary Arousal.

Hallman studied creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Iowa, and Johns Hopkins University.  He has taught at number of schools, including Bennington College, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of St. Thomas, Sweet Briar College, St. Joseph’s University, and Oklahoma State University.

His work has received a McKnight Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, and has appeared in numerous anthologies.
