Adam Kirsch is a poet and literary critic. He is the author of three collections of poems, including most recently Emblems of the Passing World: Poems after Photographs by August Sander (Other Press), and five other books of criticism and biography. His critical study of Lionel Trilling, Why Trilling Matters, was published by Yale University Press in 2011. His essays and reviews appear regularly in The New Yorker, the New York Review of Books, and other publications. A former book critic for the New York Sun and The New Republic, he is currently a contributing editor of Tablet Magazine and director of the master’s program in Jewish Studies at Columbia University.
