Born November 5, 1902, in Switzerland.  Education:  University of Paris (Sorbonne), Licencié ès-lettres, 1927, Docteur è-lettres, 1928; Göteborg’s högskola (Sweden), 1925–27; École de Langues Orientales and École des Hautes-Etudes, 1923–25.

Director, 1928–33, Institute of Ethnology of the University of Tucumán; Head of the Expedition, 1934–35, Franco-Belgian Expedition to Easter Island; Anthropologist, 1936–38, Bishop Museum, Honolulu; Lecturer in Anthropology, 1937, University of California.
