Jennifer Pastor

Jennifer Pastor’s sculptures evolve from long-term immersive research relationships, often imagined and built with complex social collaborations. She is interested in found sculptural situations and shared constructions, how people co-create forms and abstraction through unconscious gesture and physical interaction. Her work explores contortions and fictions of nature, intimacy and the monumental, compression of time, reversal of polarities, bodily boundaries of objects and people, fictitious forms and anatomies, absence as form.

Pastor’s work has been exhibited in national and international venues since the early nineties, including solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and has been included in the San Paulo Biennial, the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Biennial. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, MOCA Los Angeles, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, FRAC Bourgogne Dijon, France, Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection, Italy, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark, and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. She is represented by greengrassi, London.
