Jian Ma

Jian Ma is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. His research has been focused on computational biology by solving problems at the interface of computer science, genomics, and biomedicine. He has developed new computational methods that would allow us to better understand genome structure and function as well as their changes in different cellular conditions, during disease development, and also across mammalian species. His recent work includes machine learning architectures for integrative analysis and representation learning of higher-order genome organization and gene regulation. The algorithms derived from his research have the potential to unravel the interwoven components in a broad range of biological systems and reveal mechanistic connections between genomic sequence and cell phenotype in human health and disease.
