Motley, Archibald John, Jr.:  Appointed for creative work in painting, abroad; tenure, twelve months from July 1, 1929.

Born October 7, 1891, at New Orleans, Louisiana. Education: Art Institute of Chicago, 1914–18.

Principal Paintings: Awarded the Joseph N. Eisendrath prize for Syncopation, Art Institute of Chicago, 1925; awarded the Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. Logan medal and prize for A Mulattress, Art Institute of Chicago, 1925; Mending Socks, voted the most popular painting in an exhibition by contemporary American Artists at the Newark Museum, 1927; granted the Harmon Foundation award and gold medal in Fine Arts for a painting, Octoroon Girl, 1928.
