Christopher Peacocke

Christopher Peacocke is the Johnsonian Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University, and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Philosophy, School of Advanced Study, in the University of London. He was the Waynflete Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy at the University of Oxford (1989-2000), Professor of Philosophy at NYU (2000-2004), and during the summer terms, Wollheim Professor of Philosophy at University College London (2007-2015). In 1983-4 he was a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, and he held a Leverhulme Research Professorship (1996-2000). He is a Fellow of the British Academy and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was President of the Mind Association (1986-7). His books include Sense and Content (1983), A Study of Concepts (1992), Being Known (1999), The Mirror of the World: Subjects, Consciousness, and Self-Consciousness (2014), and The Primacy of Metaphysics (2019). In addition to work in metaphysics, epistemology, the philosophy of mind, and the theory of intentional content, he has been concerned to apply the ideas of contemporary philosophy of mind to advance our understanding of the perception of music, the topic for which his Guggenheim Fellowship was awarded.
