Cullen, Counteé: Appointed to complete a group of narrative poems and the libretto for an opera, principally in Paris; tenure, twelve months from July 1, 1928.

Born May 30, 1903, in New York City. Education: A.B., 1925, New York University; M.A., 1926, Harvard College.

Assistant Editor, Opportunity, A Journal of Negro Life, 1926—.

Winner of the Witter Bynner Intercollegiate Poetry Contest for 1925 and prizes in the Crisis and Opportunity contests for 1925 and 1926; winner of the John Reed Memorial Prize for Poetry in 1925; in 1926 granted the Harmon award and medial in literature for his book of poems “ Color” as representing the outstanding Negro achievement in literature for that year.
