Alter, Dinsmore:  Appointed for research on the application of statistical methods to meteorological and astronomical problems, especially with reference to the rainfall of the British Isles; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1929.

Born March 28, 1888, at Colfax, Washington. Education: Westminster College, B. S., 1909; University of Pittsburgh, M. S., 1910; University of California, Ph. D., 1916; also student at University of Chicago and California Institute of Technology.

Fellow at the Allegheny Observatory, 1909–10; Instructor to Adjunct Professor, 1911–14, University of Alabama; Instructor, 1914–17, University of California; Assistant Professor to Professor of Astronomy, 1917—, University of Kansas.
