Born December 2, 1896, at Sac City, Iowa. Education:  Purdue University, 1915–16; University of Illinois, A.B., 1919; Harvard University, A.M., 1920; University of Paris, Docteur de l’Université, 1926.

Instructor in History, 1920–21, Ohio State University; Instructor in History, 1927, Boston University; Instructor in History and English, 1927–33, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
