Born November 29, 1906, Cheltenham, Pennsylvania.  Education:  University of Delaware, 1925–27; Johns Hopkins University, 1927–28; University of Arizona, A.B., 1932, A.M., 1933; University of Chicago, Ph.D., 1939.
