Director Elizabeth LeCompte has sustained an impressive career for more than thirty years in contemporary theater.  After graduating Skidmore College, Ms. LeCompte served as a member and artistic director of The Performance Group in New York.  She became a founding member of The Wooster Group in 1975, and is presently the artistic director of the group.  Ms. LeCompte seeks to incorporate video, sound, lighting, and architectural stage design into her productions in new and innovative ways.  Her productions often juxtapose canonical and modern texts, including To You, The Birdie! (Phedre), Hamlet, and L.S.D.  The works have been performed at venues including the Museum of Modern Art and the Performing Garage in New York, and in cities around the world including Berlin, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Brussels.

She is the recipient of numerous honors, including a New York Dance and Performance Award for Sustained Achievement (BESSIE), an OBIE Award for Sustained Excellence, the Chevalier des Artes et Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture, and a National Theater Practitioner Award from the Theater Communications Group.  Ms. LeCompte used her Guggenheim Fellowship term to work on a production exploring celebrity and aging in America.
