JOHNSON, FRANCIS RARICK.  Appointed for the preparation of a history of scientific thought and activity in Elizabethan England, with special emphasis on the relation of science to the other intellectual and material concerns of that age; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1942.

Born August 14, 1901, Otoe, Oklahoma.  Education:  United States Military Academy, B.Sc., 1923; University of Oxford, B.A., 1927, M.A., 1932 (Rhodes Scholar, Merton College); Johns Hopkins University, Ph.D., 1935. Huntington Library Research Fellow, 1933–34; study in England, 1935.
