WHELAND, GEORGE WILLARD:  Appointed for the continuation of quantum mechanical investigations into the structure of organic molecules in collaboration with European authorities, and the gathering of material for a monograph on the same subject; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1936.

Born April 21, 1907, at Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Education:  Dartmouth College, B.S., 1928; Harvard University, A.M., 1929, Ph.D., 1932.

Assistant in Chemistry, 1930–32, Harvard University; Research Fellow in Chemistry, 1932–35, Senior Fellow in Chemical Research, 1935—, California Institute of Technology.

Publications:  Articles in Journal of the American Chemical Society, Journal of Chemical Physics, Eleventh Report of the Committee on Contact Catalysis of the National Research Council.
