WHITE, HARVEY ELLIOTT:  Appointed for a spectroscopic study and analysis of gases of the volcano Mauna Loa; tenure, six months from July 1, 1941 (postponed).

Born January 28, 1902, Parkersburg, West Virginia.  Education:  Occidental College, A.B., 1925; Cornell University, Ph.D., 1929.  National Research Council Fellow, Pysikalische Technische Reichsanstalt, 1929–30.

Instructor in Physics, 1927–29, Cornell University; Assistant Professor of Physics, 1930–38, Associate Professor, 1938—, University of California.
