Homer W. Smith

Smith, Homer William:  Physiological and biochemical investigations on the lung fish Protopterus in relation to its summer terrestrial hibernation; on the primitive fish Polypterus in relation to its phylogenetic position between the sharks and the more recent fishes, amphibian, reptilian, etc., and on various Mediterranean fauna in relation to certain biochemical aspects of evolution; tenure, four months in the summer of 1928.

Born January 2, 1895, in Denver, Colorado. Education:  University of Denver, A.B., 1917; School of Hygiene and Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Sc.D., 1921; National Research Council Fellow in Medicine, Harvard Medical School, 1923–1925.

Research Assistant, U. S. Public Health Service, Hygienic Laboratory, 1918–19; Research assistant, Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis, 1921–23; Professor of Physiology, University of Virginia, 1925–1928.
