LOWRY, HOWARD FOSTER: Appointed for studies concerning the lives and works of Matthew Arnold and Arthur Hugh Clough, based upon new manuscript materials, in England; tenure, seven and one-half months from June 15, 1934.

Born July 26, 1901, at Portsmouth, Ohio. Education: College of Wooster, B.A., 1923; Yale University, Ph.D., 1931 (Sterling Fellow, 1930, 1933).

Instructor in English, 1923–25, Assistant Professor, 1929–30, Professor, 1931—,  (Acting Head of Department, 1931–33, Head, 1934—), College of Wooster; Instructor in English, 1928–29, Yale University.
