Smith, Jacob Getlar:  Appointed for creative work in painting, abroad; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1929.

Born February 3, 1898, in New York City. Education: National Academy of Design, 1919–21.

Exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, John Herron Art Institute, Fort Wayne Art Museum, Carnegie Institute, Brooklyn Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Ann Arbor Art Association, Rochester Memorial Art Gallery, Cincinnati Museum, Art Gallery of Toronto, National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), Des Moines Association of Fine Arts, Kansas City Art Institute, City Art Museum of St. Louis, Nebraska Art Association.

Awarded honorable mention for figure painting, Arrangement, at the fortieth annual exhibition of American Paintings and Sculpture, Art Institute of Chicago, 1926.
