Jenny McPhee is the author of The Center of Things, No Ordinary Matter, and A Man of No Moon, and co-authored Girls: Ordinary Girls and Their Extraordinary Pursuits. Her translations from the Italian include books by the authors Natalia Ginzburg, Primo Levi, Anna Maria Ortese, Curzio Malaparte, Paolo Maurensig, and Pope John Paul II. Her translation of Natalia Ginzburg’s Family Lexicon was shortlisted for the American Literary Translators Association 2018 Italian Prose in Translation Award. Her articles, stories, and translations have been published in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Bookforum, The Washington Post, Air Mail, Harper’s Bazaar, Glimmer Train, and Zoetrope among others. She is the Academic Director of the Center for Applied Liberal Arts continuing education program at NYU’s School of Professional Studies and Clinical Assistant Professor of Translation and Creative Writing. She is a faculty member of the Masters in Translation program at NYU and has recently taught a literary translation workshop at Princeton University. She cofounded the Bronx Academy of Letters, a NYC public school, in 2003.
