DOUGLAS, JESSE:  Appointed for research in mathematical analysis and geometry with some applications to mathematical physics; tenure, twelve months from April 1, 1940.

Born July 3, 1897, in New York City. Education:  College of the City of New York, B.Sc., 1916; Columbia University, Ph.D., 1921. National Research Council Fellow, in the United States and Europe, 1926–30.

Instructor in Mathematics, 1920–25, Columbia University; Assistant Professor of Mathematics, 1930–34, Associate Professor, 1934–38, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Awarded Fields medal by the International Congress of Mathematicians, Oslo, Norway, 1936. Awarded Townsend Harris medal by the City College Alumni Association, New York, 1939.
