FLANAGAN, JOHN THEODORE.  Appointed for the writing of a book on the literature of the Middle West from about 1820 to the present; tenure, ten months from September 1, 1943.

Born January 15, 1906, St. Paul, Minnesota.  Education:  St. Thomas College, 1923–35; University of Minnesota, B.A., 1927, M.A., 1928, Ph.D., 1935.

Instructor in English, 1928–29, University of North Dakota; Instructor in English, 1929–38, Assistant Professor, 1938—, University of Minnesota. Lecturer in American Literature, Winter, 1939, Pomona College.
