Jorge Vivanco is a Professor of Horticulture and Director of the Center for Rhizosphere Biology at Colorado State University.  Mr. Vivanco is a pioneer in studies of the interactions between plants and other organisms in the rhizosphere, which is the area immediately surrounding the plant root.  He has published and lectured extensively in this field.  In August 2007, Mr. Vivanco began a yearlong sabbatical to initiate chemical biology and biodiversity studies in the Tambopata National Reserve, Madre de Dios, Peru, as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Environmental Studies of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (IDEA-PUCP).  Work derived from these sabbatical studies is ongoing but is already highlighting  the biological and biochemical diversity of soil organisms present in the Amazonian Rainforest.  For more information about Jorge Vivanco’s scientific program, please visit http://crb.colostage.edu/home/.
