CASTRO, JUAN JOSÉ: Appointed for creative work in musical composition and studies of the work of modern North American composers, in the United States; tenure, eight months from December 13, 1933.

Born March 7, 1895, at Avellaneda, Argentina. Education:  Study in Buenos Aires with Eduardo Fornarini and in Paris at the Schola Cantorum with Vincent d’Indy and Edouard Risler.

Professor of Piano, 1926—, Escuela de Música Julian Aguirre; Director, 1928–29, Orchestra Renacimiento; Director, 1929–30, Asociación del Profesorado Orquestal; Director, 1931–32, Symphony Orchestra of Buenos Aires; Director, 1929–32, Director General, 1933, Colón Theatre, Buenos Aires.

Principal Compositions: Dans le jardin des morts, awarded a prize of the Asociación del Profesión Orquestal, and performed under the direction of Drangosch and of Mtro. Ansermet; A una madre, awarded a prize of the same association, and performed under the direction of Mtro. Ansermet; La Chollah, awarded the Municipal Prize, Buenos Aires, 1927, and performed under the direction of Mtro. Clemens Krauss; Suite Breve, performed at the concerts of the Orchestra Renacimiento, under the direction of the composer; Suite Infantil, awarded the Municipal Prize, Buenos Aires, 1929, and performed at the concerts of the Asociación del Profesión Orquestal, under the direction of the composer; Allegro, Lento e Vivace, awarded a prize of the Interantional Society for Contemporary Music, and performed at their festival in London, 1931; also performed in Buenos Aires and in Switzerland under the direction of Atro. Ansermet; Sinfonía, performed under the direction of Mtro. Ansermet, at the Colón Theatre, 1931.
