I was born in Chicago, and after a childhood spent moving around the United States, I returned there and received an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I now live and work in New York City, and teach painting at the School of Visual Arts. In addition, I also spend a significant amount of time in Oaxaca, Mexico, and while my work is not about Mexico per se, my experiences there inform and inspire some of my paintings.

Artist’s Statement:

The uncanny frequently intrudes on our perception of the familiar, illuminating the tenuous hold our day time mind has on the reality of any given moment. While the starting point of my paintings are usually ordinary objects, it is this play of perception, psychology and experience that is the true subject of my work.
