Pablo Lobato was born in Bom Despacho, Brazil (1976), and currently lives in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Prior to visual arts becoming his main area of focus, Pablo Lobato’s artistic practice centered on the cinema. Today his research is oriented more by the senses generated by specific subject matter and experiences than by specific languages.

Since 2001 he has regularly exhibited at cinema festivals in Brazil and abroad, namely, Rio de Janeiro Film Festival, São Paulo International Film Festival, Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema; Sundance Film Festival; Film Festival Locarno, Switzerland; International Film Festival Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

He was one of the founders of Teia—Audiovisual Research Centre, which has been based in Belo Horizonte since 2002.

He produced the feature film Acidente (Accident), part of the 30th Panorama of Brazilian Art, MAM (Modern Art Museum), São Paulo, and was awarded the Best Ibero-American Documentary Prize in Guadalajara, Mexico (2007).

He was awarded grants in support of his work by both the Bolsa Pampulha Project (2008) and the Rumos Visual Arts Programme (2011–2013).

He has participated in individual and collective exhibitions at art galleries and institutions such as the MAP, Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Biennial of Cerveira, Portugal; Tamayo Museum, México; Akademie der Kunst, Berlin, Germany; New Museum, New York, among others.

With the support of his Guggenheim Fellowship, Pablo Lobato travelled to Spain where his researches on and relationship with the Panades family evolved into his feature-length film Wind of Valls. Additional funding has allowed him to complete the film, which will be released in September 2012.
