Born October 5, 1898, in New York City, New York. Education: College of the City of New York, B.S., 1918; Princeton University, A.M., 1920, Ph.D., 1921; Fellow in Mathematics, 1919–20, and Porter Ogden Jacobus Fellow, 1920–21, Princeton University.
