BILLINGTON, RAY ALLEN.  Appointed for the writing of a history of the expansion of settlement in America, from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi River; tenure, twelve months from August 1, 1943.

Born September 28, 1903, Bay City, Michigan. Education:  University of Wisconsin, Ph.B., 1926; University of Michigan, M.A., 1927; Harvard University, Ph.D., 1933.
