SMITH, ROBERT SIDNEY.  Appointed for a study of the guild merchant in colonial Mexico (1590–1825); tenure, four and one half months from May 15, 1942.

Born June 13, 1904, Waterbury, Connecticut.  Education:  Amherst College, B.A., 1927, M.A., 1928; Duke University, Ph.D., 1932. Duke University Fellow, 1928–30; Amherst Memorial Fellow for studies in Spain, 1930–32.
