Born June 13, 1904, Waterbury, Connecticut.  Education:  Amherst College, B.A., 1927, M.A., 1928; Duke University, Ph.D., 1932. Duke University Fellow, 1928–30; Amherst Memorial Fellow for studies in Spain, 1930–32.

Instructor in Economics, 1932–38, Assistant Professor, 1938—, Duke University.
