Born January 6, 1897, at Rochester, New York. Education: Cornell University, A.B., 1920; Princeton University, 1921–22; Johns Hopkins University, Ph.D., 1924. National Research Fellow, 1924–1927, Research Associate, 1927–28, at California Institute of Technology.

Instructor in Physics, Princeton University, 1921–22; Assistant and Associate Physicist at National Bureau of Standards, 1922–24.
