GANDZ, SOLOMON:  Appointed for studies in early Arabic algebra, especially its connection with ancient Greek, Babylonian and Egyptian mathematics, and its influence upon medieval European mathematics; tenure, twelve months from April 1, 1936.

Born February 2, 1884, in Austria. Education:  University of Vienna, Ph.D., 1911.

Librarian and Teacher, 1924-34, Yeshiva College. Editor of Monumenta Talmudica, 1912–14; Associate editor, 1931—, Isis.

Publications:  Die Muallaqa des Imrulqais, 1913; Monumenta Talmudica, 1913; The Mishnat ha Middot, 1932. Articles in American Mathematical Monthly, The Hebrew Union College Annual, Isis, Quellen und Studien zur Geschichte der Mathematik, Proceedings of the American Academy for Jewish Research.
