Teju Cole is a critic, novelist, photographer, and the author of four books: “Every Day is for the Thief,” “Open City,” “Known and Strange Things,” and “Blind Spot.” He has been awarded the PEN/Hemingway Award, the Windham-Campbell Prize, the Internationaler Literaturpreis, the Rosenthal Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the New York City Book Award. In addition, he has been shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Aperture/ Paris Photo Photobook Award, the PEN/Jean Stein Award and many others. He has been the photography critic of the New York Times Magazine since 2015, and his monthly column was shortlisted for a National Magazine Award. His photography has been widely exhibited and is in several institutional collections.
