Timothy Donnelly

Timothy Donnelly received his B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University and his M.F.A. from Columbia University.  His first books of poems, Twenty-seven Props for a Production of Eine Lebenszeit, was published by Grove Press in 2003.  His second, The Cloud Corporation, was published by Wave Books in 2010 and in the United Kingdom by Picador in 2011. The Cloud Corporation appeared on many lists of the year’s best books of poetry in 2010, including those from The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Times Literary Supplement, The Believer, NPR, and others.  The Cloud Corporation was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s William Carlos Williams Award and received the 2012 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award.

Donnelly’s poems have been translated into Albanian, Italian, and Spanish, and a book-length German edition of his poetry appeared from Luxbooks in 2008.  His work has also been included in such anthologies as Saying What Happened: American Poetry After the Millennium; Joyful Noise: An Anthology of American Spiritual Poetry; and Legitimate Dangers: American Poets of the New Century.  It has appeared in such magazines and journals as A Public Space, Denver Quarterly, Fence, Harper’s, The Iowa Review, jubilat, The Nation, The New Republic, The Paris Review, Ploughshares, and many others. 

Donnelly has been poetry editor of Boston Review since 1996. He has been the recipient of a fellowship from the New York State Writer’s Institute and has served as the Theodore H. Holmes ’51 and Bernice Holmes Visiting Professor at Princeton University’s Program in Creative Writing and Lewis Center for the Arts. He is on the permanent faculty of the Writing Program at Columbia University’s School of the Arts and lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two daughters.
