Born April 30, 1904, at Jefferson City, Missouri.  Education:  University of Missouri, A.B., 1925, M.A., 1928, Ph.D., 1935; Sorbonne, 1930; Columbia University, Summer, 1931.

Instructor in French, 1926–29, 1931–36, Assistant Professor, 1937—, University of Missouri.
