Dennes, William Ray: Appointed to make a study, in consultation with certain authorities in Germany and England, of an aspect of Aristotle’s doctrine of substance, and of the status of the concept of substance in recent metaphysics and philosophy of nature; tenure, twelve months from July 15, 1929.

Born April 10, 1898, at Healdsburg, California. Education:  University of California, A. B., 1919, M. A., 1920; University of Oxford, Rhodes Scholar from California, 1920–23, (Corpus Christi College) D. Phil., 1923.

Mills Fellow in Philosophy, 1919–20, Instructor, 1923–24, Assistant Professor, 1924–27, Associate Professor, 1927—, University of California.
