Born July 16, 1890, at Des Moines, Iowa.  Education:  Drake University, 1909–11; University of Southern California, A.B., 1916, M.A., 1920; University of Marburg, Ph.D., 1923.

Assistant Professor of English, 1924–28, Occidental College; Assistant Professor of English, 1928—, University of California.

Publications:  Elements of Discourse in English Literature (with Edward Bock), 1934; Poems, 1936; English Prose of the Romantic Period (with Majl Ewing), 1938. Poems in Poetry, Southern Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Harper’s Magazine, Saturday Review of Literature, New Masses, Yale Review.
