Charles Goldman was born in San Francisco, California, in 1966. He received a B.A. in both Painting and American Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His multifaceted practice, which spans sculpture, photography, installation, performance, drawing, sound, and painting, is concerned with the cyclical nature of life and the standardized units used in its measurement. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Recently, he has completed projects for the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Louisiana State University, the Art Caucasus-International Contemporary Art Forum in Tbilisi, Georgia, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Toronto Sculpture Garden. Exhibitions have taken place at Peter Blum Gallery, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Artists Space, Drawing Center, and Sculpture Center, all in New York City, and the Atlanta Center for Contemporary Art, Atlanta, Georgia, and the Philip Feldman Gallery, Portland, Oregon. His work is included in many public and private collections.
Charles is also the founder of GRIDSPACE, a curatorial initiative in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
