Claudia Bitrán (1986) is a painter, video artist and teacher who spent her formative years in Santiago, Chile and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. Notable future and past solo exhibitions include Centro Cultural Matucana 100 (Santiago 2023), Signs and Symbols Gallery (NY 2022), Cristin Tierney Gallery (NY 2022), Walter Storms Galerie (Munich 2020), Practice Gallery (PA 2018), Roswell Museum and Art Center (NM 2017), Museo de Artes Visuales (Santiago 2016). She has participated in group exhibitions, screenings and performances worldwide. Among selected grants and awards are Fondart Nacional Audiovisual (2022), Emergency Grant Foundation for Contemporary Arts (2015), Jerome Foundation Grant for Emerging Filmmakers (2015),1st Prize Britney Spears Dance Challenge,1st Prize UFO McDonald’s Painting Competition,1st mention at Bienal de Artes Mediales, Museo de Bellas Artes, Santiago, Chile. Bitrán was a resident at Pioneer Works, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program, Smack Mellon Studio Program, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Outpost Projects and will be at Wassaic Projects in 2023. She holds an MFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design (2013), and a BFA from the Universidad Católica de Chile (2009). She teaches in the painting departments at Pratt Institute and Sarah Lawrence College.
