Gene Tsudik is a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He obtained his BS in Computer Seience from the University of Houston in 1985, followed by and MS and PhD degrees, also in Computer Science, from USC in 1987 and 1991, respectively. Before coming to UCI in 2000, Gene Tsudik was at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory (1991-1996) and USC Information Sciences Institute (1996-2000). His research interests include many topics in security, privacy, and applied cryptography. He was a Fulbright Scholar in at the University of Rome (La Sapienza) and a Fulbright Specialist three times. He is a fellow of ACM, IEEE, AAAS, and IFIP, as well a foreign member of Academia Europaea. From 2009 to 2015, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of ACM TOPS, the premier archival journal in security and privacy. He was a receipeint of 2017 ACM SIGSAC Outstanding Contribution Award, 2020 IFIP Jean-Claude Laprie Award, and 2023 ACM SIGSAC Outstanding Innovation Award. His magnum opus is the first ever rhyming crypto-poem published as a refereed paper. Gene Tsudik advised 30 graduated PhD students. He has no social media presence.
