HOLTFRETER, JOHANNES F. K. Appointed for investigations of the causal factors involved in the embryonic development of vertebrates; tenure, twelve months from April 1, 1944.

Born January 9, 1901, in Germany. Education:  Universities of Rostock, Leipzig and Freiburg, 1918–25; University of Freiburg, Ph.D., 1925.

Assistant, 1927–33, Kaiser Wilhelm Institute; Assistant Professor of Zoology, 1933–39, Zoological Institute, University of Munich; Guest lecturer, 1933–39, at universities in Holland, Brussels, Santander, Paris, Tokyo, Cambridge, and the United States. Fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation, at Yale University and elsewhere in the United States, 1935–36; at McGill University, 1941–43.
